Quebec tourists among injured in Cuba bus crash

One person is dead and 26 were injured after a bus carrying tourists from Québec was involved in a collision in Cuba on Sunday (June 2).

Air Transat confirmed to Noovo Info that 38 passengers who were on Montreal-bound flight TS715 were also onboard the bus when it crashed in the Camajuaní municipality, about 25 kilometres east of the Santa Clara Airport.

According to CTV New Montreal, airline spokesperson Bernard Côté said an oncoming car lost control and hit the bus, causing it to roll over.

Côté also noted that all of the passengers were sent to a nearby hospital and that that Air Transat arranged hotel accommodations for passengers suffering from minor injuries.

“We are certainly concerned for everyone's health and well-being, and are doing everything we can to offer them the support they need at this difficult time,” he said in an email to CTV News Montreal.

Cuban media reported that the person in the oncoming car, a Cuban citizen, was the one who died, and that six children were among the injured.

One of the injured is listed in critical condition.

Global Affairs Canada said in a statement to Noovo Info that it had not yet received any requests for consular assistance, but that it is prepared to help if any are made.
