National Geographic travel guides mark Canada's 150th birthday
National Geographic is launching two travel guides on Canadian national parks and historic sites this month to mark Canada’s 150th birthday in 2017, reports the Canadian Press.
The centennial of Canada’s first national historic side, Fort Anne in Annapolis Royal, N.S., is commemorated in ‘National Geographic Guide to the National Historic Sites of Canada,’ while an expanded second edition of ‘National Geographic Guide to the National Parks of Canada’ features sections on five newly created parks and reserves: Qausuittuq National Park in Nunavut, Mealy Mountains National Park Reserve in Labrador, Naats’ihch’oh National Park Reserve in the Northwest Territories, Sable Island National Park Reserve off the coast of Nova Scotia, and Rouge National Urban Park near Toronto.
Hands-on activities and events at each of the 236 locations covered in ‘National Geographic Guide to the Natural Historic Sites of Canada’ are also planned.
The federal government is marking Canada’s 150th birthday by offering free admission to national parks, historic sites and marine conservation areas operated by Parks Canada in 2017.
