Canadian tourist dies by drowning in Tulum, Mexico

A young Canadian woman visiting Tulum, Mexico died on Saturday (Jan. 25) after drowning in the ocean, according to a report in Riviera Maya News.
The incident occurred off a beach in Tulum’s popular hotel zone, the report says. Military personnel were reportedly on the scene after responding to calls for emergency services.
The 28-year-old woman, who has not been identified, was seen floating off shore when a beach vendor and two tourists saw her. The group ran into the sea to bring her back to the beach, where she was later pronounced dead, the report says.
The woman was reportedly staying at a nearby hotel at the time of the accident. The deceased’s mother was also with her at the time of her incident, reports say.
The incident occurred as Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula experiences a blast of strong winds and unstable weather brought on by cold fronts from the United States.
