ACTA to host 29th annual golf tournament this week

One of the year’s biggest events in the travel industry takes place this Thursday (July 6) as ACTA hosts its 29th annual golf tournament at Piper’s Heath Golf Club in Milton, Ontario.

The eagerly-anticipated tournament features the Air Canada group of companies as its title sponsor, with Toronto Pearson International Airport acting as the year’s major sponsor.

Fiona Bowen, membership manager, Ontario for ACTA told PAX that this year’s golf tournament promised to be one of its biggest yet. “It’s our 29th annual golf tournament, and we have lots to celebrate this summer,” she commented. “It’s ACTA’s 40th anniversary, as well as Air Canada’s 80th anniversary.”

Bowen said that the golf tournament represented a great opportunity for attendees to network and forge contacts – while having fun at the same time.

“We’ve got 148 golfers and close to 200 for dinner,” she confirmed. “[There are] lots of great prizes, and basically, it’s a day to come together, and connect with members, and connect with one of our four pillars of ACTA. It’s a day to network, and have some fun, and come together as an industry.”

The event will feature a number of exclusive prizes and fun competitions: Air Canada will host a chipping contest at hole number one, with the title sponsor also set to award what Bowen describes as ‘fabulous’ grand prizes later in the day.

Pearson Airport, meanwhile, will hold a draw for five cars to be detailed inside and out, in addition to setting up a lounge, based on Plaza Premium at the airport, during the event’s cocktail hour.

Bowen also noted the tournament’s popularity down the years. “People block their calendar for this event,” she said. “Many times I have people in January asking, ‘what’s the date this year?’”

The ACTA Ontario 29th Annual Golf Tournament takes place on Thursday, July 6, with shot-gun at 10:00 a.m.; the draw for the chance to win car detailing takes place at 9:20 a.m.
