WestJet to roll out new cabin interiors and Wi-Fi upgrades

WestJet will introduce a new cabin interior across its former economy-only aircraft as part of an initiative to create a more consistent on-board experience.

The refresh will add upgraded Premium seating, expand Extended Comfort seating and update the Economy section.

Cabin updates

The redesigned cabins will feature brighter interiors, new seats with adjustable headrests, enhanced cushions and fixed recline in Economy to preserve space.

Other changes include in-seat power outlets, device holders and updated lavatories and galleys.

“The cabin has been thoughtfully designed to offer WestJet’s welcoming service at every budget,” said Samantha Taylor, WestJet executive vice-president and chief experience officer.

“It reflects our commitment to elevating every aspect of the travel experience and meeting guest demand for a broader range of product offerings.”

The Premium section will include 12 seats, identical to those on the airline’s 787-9 Dreamliners, with ergonomic cushions, reclining backs and adjustable headrests.

Directly behind Premium, the new Extended Comfort area will offer 36 extra-legroom seats, separated from Economy by a cabin divider. Exit row seating will remain available for travellers seeking additional space.

Standard Economy seating will feature slimmer seatback contours to maximize legroom, with ergonomically designed cushions. Ultra slim-line seats will allow one additional row to be added compared to previous layouts, reducing cost per seat.

Options and pricing

WestJet said the mix of Premium, Extended Comfort and Economy seating is designed to provide more choice across different price points.

“WestJet has always been a pioneer in making air travel available to Canadians, largely through keeping costs low to offer affordable airfares,” said Taylor.

“The layout for our refreshed cabin caters to our guests’ diverse preferences. Whether they opt for Premium seating with extra amenities and legroom or for more affordable ticket prices with less space, we’re excited to introduce this range of products for our guests to enjoy.”

WestJet Rewards members and employees helped select the new seats in early 2023 through testing and feedback. A full cabin prototype was trialled in summer 2025, with findings incorporated into the design and rollout.

Inflight connectivity

The refresh also includes the installation of WestJet Wi-Fi presented by TELUS.

The airline said the high-speed, low-latency system delivers streaming-quality service and is free for WestJet Rewards members.

Wi-Fi installation is underway across the fleet and expected to be completed on all Boeing 737-800 and MAX-8 aircraft by the end of 2025.
