Canada Jetlines signs purchase agreement with Boeing

Canada Jetlines has signed a purchase deal with Boeing for up to 21 B737 Max aircraft, in keeping with the company’s plans to launch as a low-cost carrier next year.

According to Jetlines, the deal includes five firm orders, along with purchase rights for an additional 16 craft. Delivery of the aircraft is to begin in 2021, said the Vancouver-based company.

In a statement, Jetlines CEO Jim Scott said the purchase is a “major milestone” for the company, which plans to launch in mid-2015.

According to Jetlines' website, the carrier will apply 'Ultra-Low Cost Carrier operating principles with a focus on stimulating passenger demand through low cost airfares, and generating revenue from the sale of ancillary products and services onboard its aircraft,’ and 'intends to select routes which avoid direct competition with existing carriers in Canada.’
