Air Transat named North America's most climate-friendly carrier

Air Transat has again been recognized by German NGO atmosfair as the most climate-efficient airline in North America.

Air Transat was the only North American carrier to appear in atmosfair’s global top 10 of 2014. Out of 125 international airlines, Air Transat also ranks fourth in the world in the long-haul category, and seventh on the global scorecard.

A statement from Air Transat said that since 2003, the carrier has developed, implemented and constantly improved a comprehensive fuel management program, which it estimates is responsible for a five per cent reduction in fuel consumption, and which is acknowledged as one of the best in the industry. Also, Air Transat was among the first airlines in Canada to disclose its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, starting in 2007. In 2013, Air Transat emissions amounted to 7.67 kg per passenger per 100 km, the carrier said.

For a fourth consecutive year, atmosfair (established in 2004) evaluated and ranked airlines based on their GHG emissions. The atmosfair Airline Index allows travellers to select an airline based on its carbon footprint, with the highest-rated companies being those which strive to reduce fuel consumption.
