Aeroflot cancels Canadian flights

Aeroflot, Russia’s flagship carrier, has cancelled its Toronto flight citing a lack of profit.

Since June 2013, the airline offered two weekly flights to Pearson International Airport based on business projections that assumed increased passenger loads, said a report by Russian news agency Itar-Tass. The report also quoted Aeroflot director-general Vitaly Savelyev as stating that plans by the airline to pick up passenger traffic from flights between India and Canada also fell through.

Itar-Tass also reported that Russian airline Transaero cancelled its Canadian flights in September.

Canada is among the countries that enacted economic sanctions against Russia in the wake of the Ukraine crisis earlier this year.
