Survey finds travellers reluctant to use AI for autonomous trip planning

Most travellers are not ready to let artificial intelligence autonomously plan, book and manage their trips, according to Global Rescue's Fall 2025 Traveller Sentiment and Safety Survey.

Just 22 per cent of respondents said they would consider using "Agentic AI" — autonomous digital assistants that handle trip planning and bookings — for their next international trip, while 40% said they would not use it and 38 per cent were unsure.

Only 18 per cent of respondents had heard of Agentic AI before the survey.

Comfort levels dropped when travellers were asked about specific autonomous functions.

Just 20 per cent said they would feel comfortable letting AI design a complete trip itinerary based on their preferences, while 79 per cent said they would be uncomfortable with AI booking flights, hotels, or activities without their approval.

Women showed greater hesitation than men across all scenarios.

Acceptance rose slightly for AI rebooking disrupted flights or hotels, with 22 per cent reporting comfort with that function.

The strongest acceptance came for AI-driven cost savings: 38 per cent said they would be comfortable letting AI apply promo codes or adjust bookings to find better deals.

"Travellers may welcome AI tools that save them money, but they're not yet ready to let those tools make major decisions on their behalf," said Dan Richards, CEO of The Global Rescue Companies.
