Gary Sadler—the man, the myth, the legend—celebrated his 60th birthday on Saturday (Dec. 13) with a stylish, star-studded gathering at Plantation Cove, an oceanside estate on Jamaica’s north coast.

The executive vice-president of sales and industry relations at Unique Vacations Inc. (the sales and marketing arm of Sandals & Beaches Resorts), marked the big 6-0 surrounded by industry leaders (Trevello’s Zeina Gedeon, for one), Sandals colleagues (including Adam Stewart, executive chairman), politicians, family and friends.

PAX, in Jamaica on a special assignment covering the destination’s recovery after Hurricane Melissa, was also there.

Upon arriving at Montego Bay’s Sangster International Airport late Friday (Dec. 12), we caught wind of the celebration and couldn’t resist crashing the party.

Sadler began his career with Sandals’ founder, the late Gordon 'Butch' Stewart, in 1988.

Over the years, he has become a revered figure in the travel industry, expanding Sandals’ presence in Canada and cultivating lasting relationships with countless agents and agencies along the way.

“At 60, Gary Sadler stands in a league of his own,” said Adam Stewart, addressing attendees on an ocean-facing stage at the event.

“There are nearly 20,000 team members in our organization and 20,000 know who Gary Sadler is. When he walks into a resort, he is far more powerful than me.”

Adam noted that his late Father “adored” Gary, and that he has yet to find anyone that has a bad thing to say about him.

“Gary has helped build this organization in a way very few have,” Adam said.

How does Gary feel about turning 60? What’s his ultimate birthday wish?

And what’s the latest on Jamaica’s recovery following Hurricane Melissa?

PAX had its cameras rolling at the party and caught up with Gary Sadler, Zeina Gedeon and Adam Stewart to get all the answers.
