Weather-related travel disruptions lead Canadians to choose 'Cool-Cations'
(Flight Centre Canada)

A YouGov survey commissioned by Flight Centre Canada has found that more than half of Canadians (54 per cent) are concerned about travel disruptions, while 41 per cent worry about severe weather when choosing destinations.

The survey also noted that 82 per cent of Canadians experienced a travel disruption in the past year. One in three (34 per cent) of those who faced disruptions reported a flight cancellation due to severe weather, and 10 per cent encountered accommodation issues tied to these disruptions.

Despite these challenges, travellers who prepare with measures like comprehensive travel insurance report higher satisfaction with their trip (giving an average Net Promoter Score of 74 vs 67), even when facing unexpected issues.

These concerns and issues are fueling the rise of “Cool-Cations” — trips to cooler, climate-resilient destinations during off-peak seasons that offer relief from extreme weather and crowded hotspots.

“Cool-Cations address a growing need for climate-conscious and comfortable travel,” says Chadd Andre, executive vice-president at Flight Centre Canada. “Canadians are drawn to destinations with temperate climates, natural resilience, and opportunities to avoid heat, overcrowding, and weather-related disruptions.”

Flight Centre Canada has listed these destinations as the top 10 for Cool-Cations in 2025:
