Two Canadians among five dead in Mexico nightclub shooting

Authorities have said that two Canadians, an Italian and a Colombian are among five people dead after a shooting and stampede at an electronic music festival in Mexico early on Monday, according to CBC. Fifteen people were also injured.

The incident is reported to have occurred at about 2:30am at the Blue Parrot nightclub, just south of Cancun. A lone gunman is said to have entered the nightclub and started to exchange fire with another person inside. Festival security personnel who attempted to stop the shooting also came under fire.

The director of police in the state of Quintana Roo, Rodolfo Del Angel, said that four men were shot to death and one woman died in a fall in the immediate aftermath of the shooting. At least one injured person was listed in ‘very serious condition.’
