Tropical storm warning for Western Caribbean
The formation of a tropical storm in the Caribbean is likely, as a weather system which killed six in the Dominican Republic this past weekend continues to travel west.
According to The Associated Press, the storm dumped heavy rain and brought down power lines in the DR, one of which landed on a bus returning from a beach excursion and sparked a fire which killed six passengers.
Officials in both Jamaica and the Cayman Islands are advising residents and travellers to take precautions ahead of possible heavy rain and winds, as the storm travels west across the Caribbean.
As of this morning (Aug. 2), the U.S. National Hurricane Center stated that the system is likely to become a tropical storm later this week, advising that the storm is likely to impact the Yucatan, Honduras and Belize.
