TICO releases update on Public Action Plan

The Travel Industry Council of Ontario (TICO) has released a quarterly update on the progress of its Public Action Plan to address the recommendations from the Auditor General of Ontario’s (OAGO) Dec. 2023 value-for-money audit report, which reflected TICO’s progress as of Mar. 31, 2024.

The update captures key accomplishments up to May 31.

TICO has now completed five action items associated with the nine recommendations directed solely at TICO, including a review and revision of its application form “so that it is clear to applicants what specific information and supporting documents they are required to provide with their application,” and a review of “its fee structure to ensure operating costs are sufficiently funded through registration and other fees charged to registrants.”

It has also already completed actions that “require supporting documentation or third-party verification of key financial information submitted by applicants,” “create a policy outlining the documentation TICO expects its complaint handlers to record in its document management system, and the timeframe in which it expects all such information to be recorded,” and “establish a reasonable target timeframe to review and return registrant security deposits where TICO does not have any concerns about a registrant’s compliance with the Act and its regulation.”

“Thanks to the hard work and dedication of our team, we have made great strides in addressing the OAGO's recommendations, allowing for greater efficiency in our operations,” said TICO CEO Richard Smart. “As we continue implementation, we remain focused on enhancing our processes while delivering value to our stakeholders.”

Another 18 items are on schedule for completion.
