TICO explains Act amendments
The Travel Industry Council of Ontario (TICO) is providing a new explanatory paper to stakeholders regarding the recent amendments to Ontario Regulation 26/05, which came into force on July 1.
The following is a summary of the amendments to the Regulation that may be found in TICO's Explanatory Paper:
Effective July 1, 2016:
- Exempting businesses that exclusively offer one day tours from the requirements of the Act.
- Modifying the security deposit and working capital requirements to provide some flexibility for lower risk businesses that are closely tied to government.
- Aligning the filing deadline for regular claims and trip completion claims at six months.
Effective Jan. 1, 2017:
- All-in pricing. This provision will require registered businesses to display the total price to consumers, including all fees, levies and other charges, when advertising travel services.
The paper can be downloaded here.
Stakeholders are encouraged to contact TICO if they have any questions or require guidance with respect the changes to the Regulation at tico@tico.ca or 1-888-451-TICO (8426).
