TICO launches new consumer awareness campaign

TICO is launching a two-pronged awareness campaign to reinforce the consumer protection available in Ontario, which includes the Travel Compensation Fund and the importance of booking travel services with a TICO-registered agency or website. The new campaign will run on television and online from Dec. 19, 2016 to Jan. 22, 2017, across all of Ontario.

Featuring two distinct commercials – one that highlights the Travel Compensation Fund and the other a message about consumer protection and information – to assist in getting the message out, TICO is encouraging Ontario registrants to display the TICO logo on their business cards, websites, brochures, ads, invoices and email signatures.

“Consumers making holiday arrangements have a choice: they can book through a TICO-registered travel agency or website and have their travel services protected, or they can put their hard-earned vacation dollars at risk and book with someone else,” warns Richard Smart, TICO President and CEO. “This is a very timely message, considering the increasing number of booking options available to consumers, and also given that this is the time of year consumers start planning their winter and spring break vacations. TICO’s campaign will stress that when booking a holiday with a registered Ontario travel agency or website, travellers are protected by the province’s strict consumer protection laws, and the regulations governing the Ontario Travel Industry Compensation Fund.”
