Playa del Amor reopens to tourists in Riviera Nayarit

Playa del Amor reopens to tourists in Riviera Nayarit

Playa del Amor,‘The Hidden Beach’ of Riviera Nayarit, is welcoming visitors once again following a three-month coral restoration project.

Mexico's National Commission for Protected Natural Areas has proposed more orderly and sustainable programs for visitors, including a special agreement with tour operators.

Playa del Amor closed to tourism on May 9 but will now welcome up to 116 visitors per day. Each arriving boat from approved tour operators will carry a maximum of 15 people, and no more than 15 people at a time will be allowed on the beach. The 30 minute time limit to visit the beach will remain the same, and in order to conserve and protect the surrounding wildlife, visitors are prohibited from diving or wearing fins.

The restoration efforts were very successful as more than 50 per cent of the planted coral has adhered to the marine substratum. To provide visitors with additional activities at Islas Marietas, a new trail has been opened for exploration and those interested in sustainable tourism. Similar to the nearby Playa la Nopalera and the Interpretative Trail on Isla Larga, the new Sendero Trail has been opened for visitors.
