Hurricane Hermine made landfall in Florida early this morning, the first hurricane to hit the Sunshine State in more than a decade.
Hermine made landfall as a Category 1 hurricane in the state’s northern Big Bend area, near the Panhandle, before heading west toward Georgia as a tropical storm. According to reports, more than 10,000 Tallahassee residents were left without power.
Hurricane warnings remain in effect for parts of Florida’s Gulf Coast, Georgia and North Carolina, while tornado watches as a result of the storm have been issued for parts of Georgia and north Florida.
Hermine was the first hurricane to make landfall in Florida since Hurricane Wilma in 2005.
