Disney announces opening dates for Star Wars and Avatar expansions
Disney Parks has revealed further details about two of its new land expansions – World of Avatar at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and the new Star Wars-themed lands at Disneyland and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger made the announcements during the Walt Disney Company’s Q1 FY17 Earnings call.
The Star Wars-themed lands, which are the largest-ever single-themed land expansions at Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts, will be opening in 2019. Each location will transport guests to a never-before-seen planet, featuring Star Wars characters and attractions.
The World of Avatar, meanwhile, will open at Disney’s Animal Kingdom on Saturday May 27, 2017. The land will occupy 12 acres, and is inspired by Academy Award-winning filmmaker James Cameron’s Avatar movie. TIt is a creative collaboration by Walt Disney Imagineering, Cameron and Lightstorm Entertainment.
