Deal reported in YYZ strike

A tentative deal has been reached between ground crew workers on strike at Pearson International Airport and their employer, Swissport, according to the Canadian Press.

Details of the agreement will not be released until its ratification in the next few days, but Teamsters Canada and Swissport said that the deal was struck on Tuesday, with union spokesman Christopher Monette saying that the union is recommending its members accept the offer.

The strike has been ongoing since 700 unionized staff walked off the job on July 28, protesting pay and benefit cuts and what they said was a lack of respect from Swissport managers.

Swissport, which services 30 airlines at the airport, said it was looking forward to its workers’ return.
