Wymara Resort and Villas has introduced the Caribbean’s first in-ocean pool at its location on the Turks and Caicos’ Grace Bay Beach.

Created by Canadian-born owner Bruce Maclaren, the nearly 3,900 square foot amenity was inspired by his time in Australia.

It features a soft, sandy bottom and has both a shallow end at three to five feet deep and a deep end at six to nine feet deep.

“While ocean pools aren’t just an Aussie thing, they do inspire a kind of fervor there that borders on the fanatical,” says Maclaren.

“They’re probably more in the public eye now than ever. Maybe it’s Instagram — they’re so seductive to photograph. But having experienced the benefits of ocean pools and the communities that evolve around them, I thought, well, maybe we can do this here.”

Located adjacent to Wymara’s one, four and five-bedroom villas along the newly formed Sunset Cove Beach, the pool is lined by palm trees, a manicured lawn, white sand and turquoise waters.

The natural swimming pool, which gets replenished with fresh seawater from the Atlantic, is carved out of the coastal rock and lined by a timber deck that spans the entire length of the pool. It features a refreshment bar and is lined with loungers and umbrellas.

“I couldn’t be happier with the results,” says Maclaren.

“With views of the bay and up the cliff to the villas, it’s hard to imagine a more soothing setting to start or end the day off.”

The luxury resort also appointed Miguel Carrillo as director of sales and marketing.

Carrillo brings more than 25 years of hospitality experience, including roles in the hotel, airline and tour operator sectors.

Carrillo joins Wymara Resort and Villas from Malliouhana Resort in Anguilla.

He spent the majority of his career with Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts where he held sales positions for more than 19 years.

“It’s a thrill to join the team,” says Carrillo.

“I look forward to showcasing the unparalleled experiences the property has to offer and contribute to the success of this exceptional Caribbean gem.”
