Riu Palace Peninsula reopens in Cancun following major renovation

Riu Hotels & Resorts has reopened the Riu Palace Peninsula in Cancun following a comprehensive renovation that introduced new room categories, dining concepts and the brand’s Elite Club experience.

The 618-room property, which first opened in 2012, is located in Cancun’s Hotel Zone. 

Its redesigned rooms now feature natural tones and warm wood finishes, an aesthetic carried through the hotel’s restaurants, lobby and other common areas.

The renovated lobby offers more space and natural light, while large windows in the District bar provide views of the Caribbean Sea.

One of the central additions is Elite Club, RIU’s premium service for adult guests.

Elite Club bookings include premium beverages, access to an exclusive specialty restaurant and use of a private pool with a swim-up bar. 

Guests are also accommodated in one of 100 designated rooms in the hotel’s villa area, some of which feature private pools.

The villa area was previously the resort’s adults-only section.

Following the renovation, the Riu Palace Peninsula now offers nine restaurants and seven bars.

New additions include American Country, a themed restaurant within the resort’s 24-hour Sports Bar that serves American favourites, and Candy, a colourful ice cream parlour designed for families and other guests looking for a sweet treat.

The resort’s existing dining options include an international buffet restaurant, the Italian restaurant Duomo, Agave for Mexican cuisine, the Asian restaurant Sakura, the Steakhouse and the fusion restaurant Krystal.

Poolside options include Pepe’s Food, which serves grilled dishes, and Tiki Tako, offering Mexican-style tacos.

The property now has six swimming pools. 

Three are available for general use, while others include an adults-only pool with a swim-up bar, an exclusive Elite Club pool and a children’s pool.

The resort’s RIU Land kids’ club has also been renovated and operates daily. 

Shows and organized activities remain available through the hotel’s entertainment program.

Adult guests can also attend four weekly RIU Party events at the neighbouring Riu Caribe.

The reopening reinforces RIU’s presence in Cancun, where the company currently operates six hotels. 

The brand has 15 properties across Quintana Roo and 23 throughout Mexico.

RIU is also renovating the Riu Palace Mexico in Playa del Carmen and constructing the Riu Palace Quintana Roo, its fourth hotel in Costa Mujeres.

The company employs nearly 8,000 people in Quintana Roo and approximately 14,000 across Mexico.
