New Melia properties coming online in Mexico, DR this winter

Several new hotels will join Melia’s line-up of properties in Mexico and the Caribbean in the near future, with several opening in time for the upcoming winter travel season.

Five Melia sales reps from properties across the region met with travel media in Toronto this week, which will be followed by a stop in Montreal, providing updates on what the resort chain has in store for travellers this year and beyond.

“It’s about the experience,” said Elizabeth Boileau, public relations for Melia, “and each hotel offers a different one. There’s something for everyone.”

Property updates

The five reps provided an update on their respective hotel(s) for the incoming sun season. Here’s the highlights of what travellers can look forward to:

• According to Angie Diaz, Melia’s regional sales manager for Dominican Republic, Meliá Caribe Tropical in Punta Cana will be divided into two separate properties this winter, namely the Meliá Punta Cana Beach, a 538-room adults-only resort; and the family-friendly Meliá Caribe Beach, with 609 rooms. Both properties are scheduled to open on Dec. 15 and will feature The Level room category along with access to a new waterpark.
• Punta Cana will also be the site of The Grand Reserve, a new private enclave at Paradisus Palma Real. Opening Dec. 15, the new area will consist of 350 suites, measuring between 800 and 3,000 square feet, along with eight restaurants, the new G Spa and privileges to access the entire Paradisus Palma Real resort.
• In April, Melia will open Paradisus Playa Mujeres, which will become Mexico’s fifth Paradisus branded property, said Sandra G Salazar, sales manager U.S. & Canada, Paradisus Playa del Carmen. The new 498-room property will be constructed in two phases, offering amenities such as the Royal Service (adults-only) with private butlers and Family Concierge that offers a tailored family vacation experience.
