Club Med Punta Cana to reopen in Nov. post-fire
Club Med Punta Cana has announced it will reopen on Nov. 9 following a fire that caused “significant damage” to the all-inclusive property’s resort centre.
“We want to assure you that the safety, security and comfort of the guests remain our top priority,” Club Med said in a statement. “After a thorough evaluation, we have adjusted the reopening date of Club Med Punta Cana… to ensure we deliver the high level of service and comfort you expect from us.”
When the resort reopens, guests will once again have access to its children’s clubs, dine at the Hispaniola restaurant and Indigo Beach Club & Bar, participate in activities at the Circus School and relaxing at the adult-only Zen Oasis or in the Exclusive Collection Space.
Anyone with a reservation for the period the resort will be closed can call 1-888-932-2582 to discuss their best option for rebooking.
The fire in question broke out at Club Med Punta Cana early on the morning of Sept. 12.
Club Med’s on-site team and local authorities in the Dominican Republic were able to quickly extinguish the fire, the hotel said at the time.
According to a local news report in Dominican Today, the flames spread across the complex, impacting several areas, including the reception, main restaurant and pool bar.
The hotel confirmed that guest rooms were not affected.
No serious injuries were reported, although one guest sustained a minor injury during the evacuation process and was provided medical attention.
Club Med offered guests staying at the resort the opportunity to complete their vacation at its other D.R. property, Club Med Michès Playa Esmeralda, which is just under two hours away by car.
The exact cause of the fire has not yet been revealed.
