Club Med Punta Cana suffers “significant damage” in fire
A fire broke out at Club Med Punta Cana early Thursday morning (Sept. 12), according to local media reports and a company memo that was shared with travel advisors.
The fire caused “significant damage” to the all-inclusive property’s resort centre, but no guest rooms were affected, the company said.
Club Med’s on-site team and local authorities in the Dominican Republic were able to quickly extinguish the fire, the hotel said.
According to a local news report in Dominican Today, the flames spread across the complex, impacting several areas including the reception, main restaurant, and pool bar.
No serious injuries were reported. However, one guest sustained a minor injury during the evacuation process and is being provided with all the necessary medical attention, Club Med said.
“The resort team is providing all necessary support and comfort to our staff and guests,” the company said.
Most on-site activities and the Hispaniola restaurant are open at Club Med Punta Cana.
However, to ensure visitors have a positive experience, Club Med has offered guests staying at the resort an opportunity to complete their vacation at its other D.R. property, Club Med Michès Playa Esmeralda, which is just under two hours away by car.
“We have teams on site currently evaluating the necessary repairs,” Club Med said, saying that more updates will be shared when more information becomes available.
The exact cause of the fire and the full extent of the damage is unclear.
