13 hoteliers make a Punta Cana Promise to restore confidence in the DR

Earlier this month, a group of hotel owners and managers representing more than 50 properties in Punta Cana jointly signed a commitment called Punta Cana Promise, with the intention of restoring the confidence of travellers returning to the destination, following a string of incidents that have occurred in recent months.

Establishments from 13 of the most popular chains, notably RIU, Bahia Principe, AMResorts, Melia, Palladium, Iberostar, Paradisus, H10, have thus publicly committed themselves to respecting a set of safety standards and safety guidelines. These commitments are divided into eight points:

8 promises to keep

  • Our properties are autonomous and offer 24 hour security and medical assistance;
  • Our food and beverage offers come only from reputable and trusted partners. They are all carefully checked and inspected before being served on our properties in accordance with global food safety management standards;
  • Our employees all undergo rigorous background checks, screening and training;
  • Our high staff to client ratios ensure that each of them receives the attention, service and security they expect and deserve;
  • Our properties not only comply with, but also exceed tourist and hospitality regulations and directives;
  • Our affiliated activities and excursions are provided exclusively by reputable partners who are all licensed and insured;
  • Our properties are all united in the commitment to observe and respect the promise of Punta Cana;
  • Our hotels will provide security information and telephone numbers to all customers upon check-in.

Modernizing existing protocol

The safety guidelines outlined in the Punta Cana Promise are not particularly new. The hotels even claim that they have been in place for years.

Nevertheless, the preparation of the promise is a first, according to the signatories, since it is the first time that they have worked together to create such a complete resource, in an easily accessible format, in order to restore the travellers' sense of security.

“Punta Cana has been the home of our families and our properties for generations. We will do whatever it takes to convince travelers that Punta Cana is and will remain a safe and wonderful vacation destination, now and for generations to come," Piñero concluded.
