HX hosts 300+ travel advisors on largest-ever FAM
Hurtigruten Expeditions (HX) wrapped up its largest-ever FAM trip on Sept. 20, sailing from Vancouver to Seattle aboard one of its two hybrid battery-powered ships, MS Fridtjof Nansen.
For the first time, HX dedicated an entire vessel to the trade, welcoming over 300 travel advisors and their guests from the U.S. and Canada.
During the two-day journey through Gulf Island National Park Reserve, attendees took part in lectures, excursions and discussions led by HX executives, including CEO Gebhard Rainer and Chief Expedition Officer Alex McNeil, who shared insights into the future of expedition cruising following the recent launch of the 2026-2027 season.
“This FAM was the perfect way to highlight the ‘HX perfect balance’—our seamless blend of sustainability, comfort and adventure,” said Rainer. “While others may excel in one area, HX stands out by delivering all three in one unforgettable experience.”
Chief Scientist Verena Meraldi and VP of Sustainability Tudor Morgan, alongside researchers like FjordPhyto’s Dr. Allison Cusack and California Ocean Alliance’s Dr. Ari Friedlaender, showcased impactful research supported by HX’s science and education program.
Advisors participated in hands-on activities, such as collecting samples aboard the Science Boat and contributing to citizen science projects like iNaturalist and NASA’s GLOBE Observer, demonstrating how guests can make a meaningful impact.
Advisors experienced HX’s new Adventure is All-Inclusive policy, launching fleet-wide in October, which simplifies the expedition journey by combining daily excursions, Science Center access, all meals, drinks, gratuities, WiFi, professional photos and more in one comprehensive package.
This approach not only enhances the guest experience, but also makes it easier for travel partners to sell. Advisors toured the ship’s spacious Expedition Suites, featuring amenities like private balconies, hot tubs, walk-in wardrobes and lounge areas, and enjoyed all three dining options: the fine-dining Lindstrøm, the buffet-style Aune, and the globally inspired Fredheim.
