Canadian killed after catamaran sinks in Costa Rica

A Canadian is among the three passengers who died after a catamaran capsized off the shore of Costa Rica this week.

According to a report by the Associated Press, the vessel was on a day trip to Tortuga Island with more than 100 international tourists when it sank, approximately 15 kilometres from Costa Rica’s Pacific coast. A Costa Rican fire official quoted in the report said that while reports of a fire or explosion were incorrect, passengers told him that strong waves caused water to fill the vessel, operated by Pura Vida Princess.

In addition to the Canadian, the other victims include passengers from the U.S. and U.K.
