Europe emerges as top alternative as Iran conflict reshapes demand: F1S
A new survey of travel advisors conducted by First in Service Travel Ltd. (F1S) reveals that while the ongoing conflict involving Iran has created shifts in traveller behaviour, it has had only a limited impact on overall travel business volume.
Instead, the crisis is prompting many travellers to reroute their plans, with Europe emerging as the clear beneficiary.
The survey, which gathered responses from F1S travel advisors across Europe, North America, and South America, found that nearly 60 per cent of advisors have either seen no change in business levels or have experienced an increase in demand as travellers seek professional guidance amid uncertainty.
Business remains resilient
When asked how the Iran conflict had affected their overall travel business volume, 44.1 per cent of advisors reported no significant change, while 14.7 per cent said business had actually increased as clients turned to travel professionals for advice and reassurance.
Meanwhile, 32.3 per cent reported a slight decline in bookings, and only 8.8 per cent indicated that business had decreased significantly.
The findings suggest that while geopolitical tensions can create uncertainty, most travellers are not abandoning their plans altogether.
Travellers adjusting plans rather than cancelling
The survey found that clients are adapting their travel choices rather than putting trips on hold.
More than one-third of advisors (36.4 per cent) reported that travellers are redirecting demand to different regions while continuing to travel.
Another 30.3 per cent said clients are booking closer to departure dates, reflecting a desire for greater flexibility in uncertain circumstances.
Only 9.1 per cent of advisors reported widespread cancellations or postponements, while 24.2 per cent said their clients were proceeding with their original travel plans without meaningful changes.
Europe sees strongest shift
Europe has emerged as the overwhelming alternative destination of choice for travellers reconsidering Middle East itineraries, the survey found.
According to the report, 78.1 per cent of advisors said clients are redirecting their travel plans to Europe, particularly Mediterranean, Southern European, and Adriatic destinations.
Other regions attracting interest include Southeast Asia and the Indian subcontinent (6.3 per cent), domestic or closer-to-home destinations (6.3 per cent), Central America and the Caribbean (3.1 per cent), North America (3.1 per cent), and South America (3.1 per cent).
Advisors play key role during uncertainty
Fernando Gonzalez, CEO and Founder of First in Service, said the findings demonstrate both traveler confidence and the value of expert travel guidance during periods of geopolitical uncertainty.
"As disruptive to travel as conflicts are, no matter where they occur, our First in Service advisors have been nothing short of resilient in offering alternate options to those clients who continue to move forward with their travel plans," said Gonzalez in a press release.
"While some F1S clients are postponing travel, the majority remain confident and are simply re-routing to familiar regions perceived as lower-risk — notably Europe — and booking with shorter lead times. That combination points to ongoing opportunities for our advisors to guide and reassure clients during uncertain times."
Gonzalez added that F1S advisors are preparing for continued demand for alternative European itineraries as well as an increase in last-minute bookings.
He emphasized that advisors remain focused on providing clear communication regarding safety concerns, flexible travel policies, and timely guidance to help travellers make informed decisions.
