TICO approves $44K in compensation claims following Flyswatt closure
The Travel Industry Council of Ontario (TICO) has approved more than $44,000 in compensation for consumers who did not receive travel services purchased through Flyswatt Inc.
On Sept. 22, TICO’s Board of Directors approved 20 claims from the Ontario Travel Industry Compensation Fund, totalling $44,135.
The payments will assist 32 consumers affected by the closure of Flyswatt.
Two additional claims were denied. According to TICO, one involved a payment that was not made to a TICO registrant, while the other did not involve travel services that were paid for to Flyswatt and subsequently not provided.
TICO revoked Flyswatt Inc.’s registration on April 9, 2026, and subsequently opened the Compensation Fund claims process.
Consumers who may be eligible still have time to submit a claim, with the deadline set for Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2026.
The Ontario Travel Industry Compensation Fund is financed by the travel industry and provides protection to eligible consumers who do not receive travel services they paid for because of the insolvency or bankruptcy of an Ontario-registered travel agent or wholesaler, or the cessation of an end-supplier airline or cruise line.
Coverage applies only to consumers who booked through an Ontario-registered travel agent.
