Meaghan Ferrigno named interim president & CEO of Destination Canada

Destination Canada’s Board of Directors have announced that Meaghan Ferrigno has been appointed interim president and CEO, effective July 1, 2026.

“As our Chief Financial Officer and Chief Data & Analytics Officer, Meaghan is an accomplished executive leader who will provide continuity as the organization continues working with partners to strengthen our sector’s global competitiveness and build local economies across Canada,’ Canada's national tourism organization wrote in a press release.

The update comes as Marsha Walden, president and CEO, retires from the Crown corporation to embark on a new chapter “focused on family, friends, and fun,” the release says.

Walden joined the organization in 2020 at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, one of the most challenging periods in the history of Canada's tourism industry.

She subsequently “navigated through an ever-changing environment of global uncertainty,” the organization said.

“She led Destination Canada and our partners in a bold and inspired path forward through recovery, ultimately positioning Canada's visitor economy for greater resilience, improved competitiveness, and the record-breaking growth our sector is now experiencing.”

Under Walden’s leadership, Destination Canada launched its 2030 strategy, developed a new global brand platform and go-to-market strategy, introduced the Canadian Tourism Data Collective, created strategies for investment attraction and destination development, and built foundations for an AI future, the organization said.

“For every $1 invested in Destination Canada by the federal government, the organization has generated $24 in returns for Canadians,” said Destination Canada. “Her vision, leadership and unwavering commitment have strengthened our industry’s competitiveness and elevated Canada as a leisure travel and business events destination.”

“Thank you, Marsha, for your extraordinary contributions to Canadian tourism. We wish you all the best in your retirement.”
