American Airlines has announced the appointment of Paola Torri as director of operations for Canada and Mexico.

It’s a new leadership role created to support “the continued growth and strength of the airline’s operation across two of its most important international markets,” reads a press release.

Torri steps into the role as part of a broader leadership evolution across the region, building on the foundation established by the late Tony Gutiérrez and José María Giraldo, who has since transitioned into a key leadership role in the U.S.

Torri brings more than 25 years of experience at American Airlines.

Most recently, she served as People Business Partner for International, based in Mexico City, supporting teams across Canada, Latin America, the Caribbean and the United States. She will continue to be based in Mexico City, reporting to José A. Freig, Vice President of International and Inflight Dining Operations.

“I’m honoured to step into this new role and to continue building on the strong foundation our teams have created across Mexico and Canada,” said Torri in a statement.

“Throughout my career at American, I’ve seen firsthand the dedication and talent of our people, and I’m excited to work alongside them to continue strengthening our operation, enhancing reliability, and delivering the exceptional service our customers expect.”

American is the largest U.S. airline in Mexico, operating more than 600 weekly flights during the summer and up to 760 weekly flights in peak winter, including recent growth such as service to Puerto Escondido (PXM).

In Canada, the airline will operate more than 390 weekly flights this summer, while continuing to expand with new service between Calgary (YYC) and New York (JFK), complementing its existing LaGuardia (LGA) operation.
