YVR welcomes non-stop Singapore flight as Air Canada expands trans-Pacific hub
Vancouver International (YVR) is now Canada’s only airport with direct access to Singapore as Air Canada, on Wednesday (April 3), launches a new route to Singapore Changi (SIN).
The Vancouver-Singapore link will operate four times weekly, adding to Air Canada’s growing Asia-Pacific hub at YVR.
“I am pleased Air Canada has chosen YVR to host the only non-stop flight between Canada and Singapore,” said YVR President and CEO, Tamara Vrooman, in a statement. “This new route will generate $18 million in economic output and support jobs across the sector. We welcome this new service which will grow tourism, support increased trade, and importantly, connect families and friends across the Pacific region. The launch of service to Singapore speaks to the continued investment Air Canada is making in Vancouver, which in turn benefits our community and the regional economy.”
In addition to generating economic output for B.C, the new 16-hour non-stop flight to Singapore will also produce as many as 114 full-time employment opportunities, the airport says.
“These new Singapore flights are part of our strategic expansion at YVR, which together with an efficient and seamless in-transit connection process, to further position the airport as the preferred North American gateway to Asia," stated Mark Galardo, executive vice-president, revenue and network planning at Air Canada.
"Singapore is also an important gateway to beyond destinations. Customers have a multitude of connection options travelling to Southeast Asia, Southern India and Western Australia with our longstanding codeshare and Star Alliance partner, Singapore Airlines.”
Air Canada’s YVR to SIN service will operate Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday, departing YVR at 12:15 a.m. and arriving to Changi at 7:10 a.m. the next day.
Passengers on flights to and from Singapore will fly on a Boeing 787 with 298 seats.
