Weather woes: Air Canada issues travel alerts for five Canadian airports

Air Canada is warning travellers that adverse weather could disrupt flights at five Canadian airports on Monday (Aug. 24).

The airline has issued travel alerts for Montréal-Trudeau International Airport (YUL), Ottawa International Airport (YOW), Halifax Stanfield International Airport (YHZ), Saint John Airport (YSJ) and Sydney/J.A. Douglas McCurdy Airport (YQY), with potentially disruptive conditions expected throughout the day.

In Montreal and Ottawa, forecasted thunderstorms could impact flight operations.

Meanwhile, low ceilings and reduced visibility are in the forecast for Halifax, Saint John, N.B., and Sydney, N.S., which could also affect flights.

Revised ticketing policy

In response, Air Canada has revised its ticketing policy for customers travelling on affected flights, allowing them to make changes to their bookings without penalty, space permitting.

Passengers whose flights are affected can retrieve their booking through Air Canada’s website and change their flight free of charge.

Customers who booked through Air Canada Vacations are being advised to contact the tour operator directly at 1-800-296-3408.

Air Canada is also urging passengers travelling through the five airports to check their flight status before leaving for the airport.

Travellers can obtain flight information through the airline’s automated system at 1-888-422-7533.

“Air Canada is monitoring the situation closely and is working to get you on your way safely and as quickly as possible,” the airline stated.

The weather alerts are in effect all day on Aug. 24.
