"We have to face up to the current situation": OWG postpones launch

"We have to face up to the current situation": OWG postpones launch

"While our initial game plan was to start to offer links from Montréal and Toronto to Cuba, we have to face up to the current situation and put off starting our regular flights to a later date," reads a statement posted to OWG's website on Sunday (Nov. 1).

OWG (Off We Go) is a subsidiary of Nolinor Aviation, a Canadian airline based in Quebec that was announced in July.

Formed with a strategic alliance with Hola Sun Holidays (and the sister company Caribe Sol in Quebec), the service was positioned to offer direct and dedicated flights to Cuba on board modern Boeing 737-400s with excellent departure times.

By means of a press release, OWG specifies that its team "will be ready to begin these operations with our new fleet of Boeing 737-400 aircraft as soon as the authorities establish directives that will enable us to offer these flights safely."

“You are always on our mind. We think about you every day and we’re anxious to take off for the south with you on an extraordinary travel experience," the carrier stated.

It's worth noting that this month, from Montreal, Caribe Sol customers were expected to fly on OWG wings (rather than Air Transat) to to Varadero, Cayo Coco, Holguín and Santa Clara.

The plan was to offer the same, from Toronto, for customers of Hola Sun.

"We are now planning to have the resumption of our activities coincide with the high season," Danièle Frappier , sales director of the tour operator, told PAX's Quebec bureau. “The first flight scheduled is now that of December 17 to Holguin, which will be followed on the 18th by a first flight to Cayo Santa Maria."

Ms. Frappier mentioned that the main reasons for the postponement - decided by mutual agreement between OWG and Hola Sun/Caribe Sol - are travel restrictions and (especially) the obligation of quarantine on return. These measures, as we know, severely affect demand.
