"Due to the many challenges that our industry is facing," Air Transat will not operate flights from Western Canada to the South or the USA for the winter 2020-2021 season, the company has announced.

The news was shared in a communication sent to travel advisors on Monday (July 27th).

Transat will, however, still operate domestic flights from Vancouver and connecting flights to Europe via Toronto and Montreal, the details of which be unveiled shortly, wrote Marie-Christine Pouliot, a public relations and marketing advisor for Transat, in an email to PAX

"Since the current situation does not allow us to foresee resuming these routes in the near future and there will therefore be no practical option to use vouchers with Air Transat from their location, customers impacted by these cancellations will receive a refund in the amount received on file," Pouliot added.

The news comes on the same day that the Globe and Mail reported that Transat A.T. Inc. has delayed its closing deadline, once again, of its takeover by Air Canada.

"Since the European Union's decision is now expected between September 30th and November 19th, and there is no defined date for Canada's decision, we intend to use as many of those one-month periods as necessary. For now, we have extended the outside date twice, to July 27 and August 27," Christophe Hennebelle, a spokesperson at Air Transat, told PAX in a statement.
