Toronto gets new winter sun link as Porter lands in Puerto Vallarta
Porter Airlines launched service to Puerto Vallarta (PVR) today, marking the carrier’s first flights to the Mexican resort city from Toronto Pearson (YYZ).
The new route is part of Porter’s growing winter sun schedule.
Seasonal service begins with three weekly round-trip flights, increasing to five weekly on Dec. 14.
Nonstop flights from Hamilton and Ottawa to Puerto Vallarta will follow in December, expanding Porter’s Mexico network.
The route is operated with the 132-seat Embraer E195-E2, which has a two-by-two seating layout with no middle seats.
The aircraft offers free WiFi, complimentary beer and wine served in glassware and a selection of Canadian snacks.
Travellers booking PorterReserve receive priority check-in, extra legroom, cocktails and fresh meals.
Individual add-ons are also available for PorterClassic fares.
“Launching our inaugural flight to Puerto Vallarta further expands Porter’s presence in Mexico and fulfills a longstanding demand from Canadian travellers,” said Andrew Pierce, vice president, network planning and reporting at Porter Airlines.
“We are excited to offer our elevated economy experience on this popular route, and believe passengers will appreciate the genuine care and hospitality that only Porter provides.”
The carrier’s broader winter network includes destinations in Mexico, the Caribbean, Costa Rica, Florida, Arizona and California.
Porter says the schedule complements service from joint venture partner Air Transat, giving travellers more options across both networks.
VIPorter members can redeem points toward sun destinations on Porter and Air Transat starting at 10,000 points one way.
Toronto Pearson welcomed the new route as part of increasing winter demand.
“We are excited to see Porter Airlines expand its selection of international destinations by offering service to Puerto Vallarta,” said Kurush Minocher, interim chief commercial officer at Toronto Pearson.
“We know many passengers are looking to fly to sunny destinations during the winter season, and this service will provide more choice for our travellers.”
Tourism officials in Mexico also noted rising interest from Canada.
“We have recorded an 8% increase in visitors from Canada, which confirms their growing interest in our destination,” said Michelle Fridman Hirsch, secretary of tourism of Jalisco.
“This is a great opportunity to strengthen the relationship between both countries. We recognize and celebrate the addition of these routes operated by Porter, an airline of great relevance in Canada. Today we gather to inaugurate the connection with Toronto, and in the coming days flights to Ottawa and Hamilton will be added. We reaffirm that in Jalisco we welcome Canadian travellers with open arms.”
