SPECIAL EDITION: CanJet Vacations closing

CanJet has confirmed it will be closing its tour operator subsidiary, CanJet Vacations.
“We have decided that we wish to no longer participate in the vacation business, due to the highly competitive environment within this seasonal market segment,” Stephen Rowe, president of CanJet Airlines, said in a statement to PAX.
Rowe went on to state that the CanJet Vacations office will be closed in the near term, and the staff of seven people will be provided lay-off notices.
CanJet has been making headlines across the country over the past few months, with reports of staff reductions and reallocation of the company’s aircraft overseas calling the airline’s future into question, but as of April 2015, CanJet Vacations, which launched early 2014, was still planning to offer a summer program and was looking to partner with other airlines.
With regards to CanJet Airlines, Rowe has maintained that it continues to operate aircraft from Pearson on behalf of Transat Tours Canada, and that the company’s other three aircraft are positioned to be working in Europe for the 2015 summer and fall season – although whether these plans will change or not still remains to be seen.
According to Rowe: “The airline’s future is still being contemplated, and a decision with respect to our airline will be made in the coming months.”
