Porter adds Ottawa nonstop flights to Miami and Phoenix
(Porter Airlines)

Porter Airlines has launched new seasonal service from Ottawa International Airport to Miami International Airport and Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport

Miami service began Jan. 24 with three weekly flights, adding to Ottawa’s Florida lineup that already includes Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Orlando and Tampa

Phoenix flights begin Feb. 7, also operating three times weekly.

Andrew Pierce, Porter’s vice president of network planning and reporting, said the additions reflect demand for winter getaways from the region.

“The ongoing addition of nonstop routes from YOW reflects Porter’s commitment to Ottawa-Gatineau,” Pierce said, adding that “these in-demand routes provide more options and more sun for the region.”

Porter notes both routes also improve onward connectivity through its codeshare partner, American Airlines, with Phoenix positioned as a hub for additional U.S. connections.

The airline said this opens access to 36 additional Western U.S. destinations operated by American and its affiliates, including Tucson, Honolulu, Kahului and San Diego.

Joel Tkach, vice president of business development and marketing at the Ottawa International Airport Authority, framed the move as a response to passenger demand and a boost to regional connectivity.

“These routes further strengthen our connectivity to the U.S. Southwest and open valuable opportunities for our region,” Tkach said, adding that Porter is YOW’s largest airline by number of nonstop destinations served and that its network growth is supported by the expanded connectivity of the American Airlines codeshare.

In Miami, Daniella Levine Cava, mayor, Miami-Dade County, said the Ottawa service restores a link that hasn’t existed since early 2020.

“Ottawa is also now MIA’s fourth Canadian destination,” she said, adding that the three new weekly flights create another nonstop option and that the airport is “already responsible for more than 700,000 MIA passengers annually” from Canada.

Porter said it is offering more flights from Ottawa than any other carrier this winter, serving 26 nonstop routes.

The airline also pointed to a broader sun-market push from Ottawa this season, with service to destinations in Mexico, The Bahamas, the Cayman Islands and Costa Rica operating since December.

Onboard, passengers receive complimentary beer and wine, Canadian premium snacks, and free Wi-Fi.

The airline’s PorterReserve fare includes meals and bundled services such as extra legroom and two checked bags, while PorterClassic offers add-ons à la carte.
