Health officials issue measles exposure alert for YYZ, two flights

Peel Public Health is advising travellers they may have been exposed to a confirmed case of measles on two flights and at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) earlier this month.

The potential exposure involves Flight BG305 (Biman Bangladesh Airlines) from Bangladesh to Toronto, via Rome, and Flight AC1986 (Air Canada) from Toronto to Moncton on July 7.

Health officials say people who were in Terminals 3 and 1 at Toronto Pearson airport between 1:11 p.m. and 11:45 p.m. on July 7 may also have been exposed.

Anyone who may have been exposed is urged to ensure they are fully vaccinated against measles and to monitor for symptoms until July 28.

Symptoms can appear as early as seven days after exposure and may include fever, runny nose, cough, red eyes and a rash.

Peel Public Health says anyone who develops symptoms should contact a healthcare provider before seeking medical care to help prevent further spread of the virus.

The latest case marks Peel Region's second confirmed measles infection of the year. Across the province, Public Health Ontario had recorded 27 measles cases as of June 23.
