Goway showcases Africa and the Middle East

Travel agents had an opportunity to expand their knowledge of Africa and the Middle East at a round robin training event hosted by Goway Travel in Toronto yesterday (March 15).

“The beauty about this event is that really showcases the depth and the range of our African and Middle East products,” Moira Smith, general manager, Africa, Middle East and Europe at Goway, told PAX at the event, which was held at Toronto's InterContinental Yorkville hotel.

Up to 130 agents spent time with 28 of Goway’s suppliers at the rapid-learning session, which, this year, included information about Israel, Jordon, United Arab Emirates and Egypt.

Reps from tourism boards in Seychelles, South Africa and Kwazulu-Natal were also on site to engage with agents and answer questions.

“We’ve have had an unbelievable response from the agent community,” Smith said, noting that organizers had to put a stop on the invites after the event reached capacity.

Brand new to Goway’s product line this year is Malawi. “Very few North American suppliers sell it,” noted Smith.

The day, which included an evening portion for consumers, was largely dedicated to highlighting Goway’s ability to maximize a travellers’ experience according to their budget and to showcase “partners and suppliers we know and trust,” Smith said.

But it was also about promoting Africa and the Middle East as regions worth visiting more than once.

“Africa gets into your soul. Once you’ve been, it really does call to something deep inside you and you will go back,” Smith said.
