Flair appoints Sumanth Rao as its new chief financial officer
Flair Airlines has announced the appointment of Sumanth Rao as its new chief financial officer.
“After a comprehensive recruitment process, I’m pleased to announce that Flair has hired an accomplished senior leader in aviation finance, Sumanth Rao,” stated Maciej Wilk, CEO of Flair Airlines, in a press release. “His wealth of experience and proven track record in the aviation industry marks a significant step in Flair's ongoing journey toward a stronger future for our customers, employees, partners, and shareholders.”
Rao joins Flair after a 16-year career at Delta Air Lines, serving in a variety of senior finance roles. He was most recently the CFO of Delta Vacations since 2022, where his leadership was instrumental in driving consistent profitable growth, Flair says.
In his previous roles at Delta Air Lines, he has managed budgets exceeding $4 billion annually and led the airports team through the pandemic, Flair says.
"We are thrilled to have someone of Sumanth's calibre join our leadership team," said Flair Airlines’ Board President, Julia Haywood. "His deep expertise in financial strategy and aviation, combined with his passion for making air travel more accessible, aligns perfectly with Flair's mission. Sumanth's vision will be key as we continue to redefine what it means to be a low-cost carrier in Canada."
Rao said he shares Flair's commitment to ensuring Canadians have access to a competitive and affordable air travel market.
“I’m excited to join Flair Airlines at such a pivotal time,” he stated. “Flair’s dedication to offering affordable, high-quality travel experiences resonates deeply with me. I look forward to working with the talented team further to enhance Flair’s financial performance and operational excellence.”
Rao joined the Flair team in Canada on August 19, 2024. He is based in Vancouver and will also spend significant time with Flair's Finance Team in Edmonton.
