FAM Report: Seychelles welcomes Canadian travel agents

The Seychelles Tourist Board (STB) and Mason’s Travel (Seychelles Destination Management Company) welcomed their first-ever group of Canadian travel agents from Oct. 19-26.

Marie Phillips of Carlson Wagonlit Travel - Parksville, B.C. is the Western Canada Seychelles ambassador, a Seychellois herself. Phillips escorted six fellow agents from across the country on this extraordinary familiarization (FAM) trip to the beautiful luxury island in the Indian Ocean located east of Africa.

We kicked off the experience with a visit to the St. Elizabeth Orphanage in Mahe (the main island of Seychelles) to donate school supplies and toys. After this short visit, we were whisked off for a week of hotel site inspections plus enjoyed visits to key tourist attractions and firsthand experiences in a variety of hotel options throughout the country.

The host hotels included Coral Strand Smart Choice Hotel (Mahe); Cote D’Or Apartments (Praslin); Le Meridian Fisherman’s Cove (Mahe); The Savoy (Mahe); Indian Ocean Lodge (Praslin); Saint Anne Island and Constance Lemuria Resort (Praslin), a Leading Hotels of the World resort.

The warmth of the island was not only felt in the temperature but by the people all around. Service at most of the hotels was top notch.

While en route to Seychelles, the group was treated to a four-night FAM to Abu Dhabi, compliments of the Abu Dhabi Tourist Board. We got to check out some of the world’s most luxurious hotels that Abu Dhabi has to offer, along with experiencing some adventurous activities such as dune bashing and camel riding in the desert. Host hotels included Yas Island Rotana and Crowne Plaza Abu Dhabi.

The whole experience highlighted a potential itinerary one could experience when considering these destinations. They can be packaged as a luxury option or a more affordable moderate option could be created.

If looking for venues for corporate clients, Abu Dhabi has lots to offer in conference space.

Thanks to both STB and Mason’s Travel and the Abu Dhabi Tourist Board for their cooperation in putting this FAM together.
