The Canadian Transportation Agency (CTA) has approved requests from WestJet to operate international service, through codeshares, to Malaysia, Hong Kong, the Philippines and Singapore.

“The Agency is satisfied that the applicant meets all the applicable requirements,” the CTA wrote in four separate determinations published on March 7.

The CTA, therefore, has issued WestJet the required licences, which are subject to conditions outlined in Canada’s Air Transportation Regulations.

WestJet is authorized to operate, via codeshare, a scheduled international service on select routes set out in the applicable agreements.

The new international service is to be conducted in accordance with the agreement and any arrangements made between Canada and the destinations.

WestJet’s codeshare partners for the new routes are unclear. PAX has reached out to the airline for comment.

The update comes as WestJet, in December, announced 2023 summer 787 Dreamliner routes from YYC Calgary International Airport to Tokyo, Japan, its first destination in Asia, with service to Narita International Airport.

This is a developing story.
