Travel Agent Day is here!

The annual occasion, which takes place on the first Wednesday of May each year, began in 2012 as a way of recognizing the value that agents continue to provide their clients.

Colleen Lorenzen, operations manager at Uniglobe Carefree Travel, has been at the forefront of promoting the occasion, with 2015’s event receiving the most support from the travel industry to date.

“It means a lot to me and I am sure the agents will benefit from these great incentives,” Lorenzen said. “It took a while to get the ball rolling but once they knew about Travel Agent Day, the suppliers really have responded and it is great to know that they value travel agents and all the work that they do.  It is my hope that all travel agents will take part in some way and enjoy their day.”

To mark the day, several companies and organizations within the industry are offering special promotions for agents:

ACTA

The Association of Canadian Travel Agencies has released a consumer facing website at bookwithatravelagent.ca, to help promote the value of booking with a travel agent. ACTA is also partnering with WestJet for its ‘Why I use a Travel Agent’ contest, in which agents are asked to solicit their clients to share the value that their agent provided. The winning agent and their client will each receive a pair of air-only tickets anywhere WestJet flies. Entries can be sent to contest@acta.ca.

Air Canada

For bookings made by May 13, Air Canada is offering agents 20 per cent off select flights with one companion and select Air Canada Vacations Sun Packages with up to three companions.

Air China

Agents can win a pair of tickets on one of the carrier's daily non-stop flights from Vancouver to Beijing, with one entry for every Air China ticket sold today.

Anderson Vacations

Anderson Vacations is doubling the Anderson Vacations rewards points on any booking made today.

Club Med

Agents can win a spot on the company’s next FAM trip by sending an email to canada.marketing@clubmed.com by May 15. Club Med has also released a new video promoting its FAM trips.

Gateways International

Four $50 Petro Canada gas cards are up for grabs from Gateways International; to enter the draw, agents can email inquiries@gateways-international.com and explain why they enjoy working with the company.

Goway

Today only, Goway is offering a $5 coffee card to agents calling for a quote; for calls about bookings, agents will receive $25 on their Rewards Card.

Intrepid Travel

One lucky agent will win the Intrepid trip of their choice, by submitting their dream tour at www.intrepidtravel.com/agentday to be entered in the draw. In addition to the giveaway, agents can also enjoy a free Urban Adventure if they book an Intrepid Travel tour on May 6, which can be used for personal travel or on a client booking.

For each week in the month of May, Trafalgar is offering agents the chance to win a gift basket (valued at $500) for every passenger they book on a Trafalgar trip. Agents who book an Insight Vacations escorted journey from May 5-9, 2015 will automatically receive an additional $50 commission.

WestJet

Agents booking flights and vacation packages with WestJet this month are eligible to play the weekly trivia game to win one of 60 prizes, including one of six grand prize WestJet Vacations packages.
