Canadian airlines respond to new U.S. security measures

Air Canada and WestJet have responded to recent security measures implemented by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) by introducing new recommendations for passengers arriving at airports.

Enhanced security measures introduced by DHS require additional screening of personal electronic devices such as tablets and laptops, while personal electronic devices larger than a smartphone will need to be easily accessible and have all cases, covers and packaging removed.

Both airlines are recommending that passengers arrive at the airport at least two hours before scheduled departure in order to allow for additional screening time as a result of the new measures.

WestJet has also recommended that passengers remove their personal electronic devices from their cases prior to entering the security line, which is a recommendation for all flights departing Canada.

Further information on the screening is available on the Department of Homeland Security fact sheet.
