A burst pipeline has cut off the supply of jet fuel to Auckland Airport, leaving thousands of travellers stranded in New Zealand.
The BBC reported that the pipeline, the airport’s only source of fuel, burst last Thursday following damage from digging on a rural property which is believed to have taken place months ago. Currently, approximately 2,000 passengers have been affected and with fuel supplies rationed, airlines are currently refuelling in Australia and elsewhere to maintain long-haul services.
The pipeline is expected to return to full service by Sept. 26, the report stated.
Auckland Airport is advising travellers to contact their airlines and to continue to monitor flights.
