BermudAir orders 10 Airbus A220s to fuel network expansion

BermudAir is preparing for its next phase of growth after placing its first-ever order with Airbus, signing for 10 A220-300 aircraft.

The deal, unveiled at the Farnborough International Airshow, marks the airline's first Airbus purchase.

The order had previously appeared in Airbus' March order book as an undisclosed customer.

The new aircraft will significantly expand BermudAir's capabilities, allowing the carrier to launch new nonstop routes across Bermuda, the Caribbean and North America while opening what Airbus describes as a new region of operations for the A220.

The A220-300s will be configured with 135 seats in a three-class layout, giving BermudAir greater flexibility to develop nonstop services between Atlantic and Caribbean destinations.

Airbus said the aircraft burns 25 per cent less fuel and produces 25 per cent lower CO2 emissions per seat than previous-generation aircraft, offering improved operating efficiency while supporting sustainability goals for island destinations.

The order also represents another milestone for the A220 program, expanding the aircraft's footprint into a new operating region.

Designed to carry between 100 and 160 passengers, the A220 has a range of up to 3,600 nautical miles (6,700 kilometres).

As of the end of June 2026, Airbus had delivered 526 A220 aircraft to more than 25 operators worldwide, with the program's order book exceeding 1,100 aircraft.

BermudAir’s 2026 summer schedule, aboard Embraer E190 aircraft, offers six times weekly flights connecting Bermuda with Toronto (YYZ) and twice weekly service to Montreal (YUL) and Halifax (YHZ).

As previously reported, the airline will also fly nonstop service from Toronto Pearson to Turks and Caicos, with continuing service to Anguilla, starting this winter.
