AirlinePros: LAM Mozambique Airlines expands domestic connectivity with new hub

LAM Mozambique Airlines has expanded its domestic network with the launch of a second flight hub in Beira, offering travellers more options for getting around Mozambique without connecting through Maputo.

The new hub, which opened Aug. 12 in the coastal city of Beira, will allow direct domestic flights to other major destinations across Mozambique. The move is designed to reduce the need for passengers to connect through Maputo, the country’s primary gateway, while cutting travel times and costs.

Karl Müller at AirlinePros, which represents LAM Mozambique Airlines in Canada, said the expanded connectivity also creates new opportunities for the travel trade.

“This opens up new travel time convenience for those already in the country, considerable savings in travel time and flight costs, in addition to opening new doors of product opportunity with this new hub. This will be of special interest to niche travel/FIT promoters, tour operators and TMCs that handle travel logistics for business related traveller,” said Müller.

LAM operates a mixed fleet of Boeing, Embraer and Bombardier aircraft.

For travel advisors, LAM flights are bookable through all major GDS systems, with the airline offering three per cent agency commission on published fares.

For the time being, the airline's form of payment is cash, although LAM says it is working to introduce an alternative payment option. A further announcement will be made once it is activated.
