Air Transat reaches agreement in principle with flight attendant union

Travellers and travel advisors can breathe a sigh of relief.

Air Transat and the union representing its flight attendants, the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), have reached an agreement in principle for the renewal of the collective agreement, the airline shared Thursday (Dec. 14).

The update averts a strike that could have unfolded as soon as Jan. 3, at the height of the holiday rush, had talks fallen apart.

Last month, 2,100 flight attendant members at Air Transat approved a strike mandate, CUPE announced on Nov. 27.

The vote reflected the flight attendants' “high level of dissatisfaction with their working conditions,” CUPE said, particularly with wages and purchasing power.

Details of the new agreement, subject to a vote, will be presented to members “in the coming days, Air Transat said.

“Travellers can enjoy their travel plans with peace of mind,” the airline said.
